How to sign a document using eID and eParaksts?

Make sure the ID card is inserted into the card reader in the correct direction. After connecting the card reader, wait a few minutes - your computer may automatically configure the device if this is the first time you are using it. Usually, notifications about this process appear in the lower right corner of the screen.

Open the eParaksts.lv portal and click the "Pārbaudīt vai parakstīt" button in the top right corner.

Add the file from your device that you want to sign.

Make sure the correct document is selected, then click the "Turpināt" button.

Select the required signature format. If the document is intended for use in Latvia, choose "eDOC". As the signing method, choose "eID vai eParaksts karte" and click the "Turpināt" button.

Click "Sākt autentifikāciju" and wait a moment.

Additional step in some cases. If the "eParakstītājs 3.0" program is not installed on your computer, you will be prompted to download it. Select your operating system from the available options, most likely Windows or macOS, and click "Lejupielādēt". Once the download is complete, usually visible in the top right corner of the browser, open the file you have just downloaded and install the program. After that, close all windows, restart your computer, and start the process again. Once the program is installed, this additional step should no longer be required.

Enter your ID card PIN1 code and click "Apstiprināt".

Additional step in some cases. Enter your ID card PIN2 code and click "Apstiprināt".

After signing, download the document and save it to your computer or phone, or send it to the recipient.
